Surgical Theatre Commissioned

Freedom Aid Ghana is committed to supporting underserved and vulnerable populations through sustainable health-focused interventions and community development initiatives. Since its establishment in 2009, the organization has successfully implemented 18 impactful health projects, benefiting an estimated 500,600 people across Ghana — including the surgical theatre being commissioned today. Of these 18 projects, three were generously funded by the Australian Government. We deeply appreciate and value our longstanding partnership with the Australian High Commission, which has been instrumental in advancing our mission since 2019.

Today marks a defining moment in the history of healthcare delivery in Madina. Established in 1974 as a Maternal and Child Health Centre, Madina Polyclinic, Kekele has faithfully served this community for over five decades. For 52 years, it has been a place of hope for mothers and children, a first point of care, and a pillar of public health in this municipality. Yet, throughout these years, one critical service remained beyond its reach — surgical care.

Today, that story changes. The commissioning of this state-of-the-art surgical theatre is not merely the unveiling of a facility; it is the unlocking of possibilities. It represents dignity for over 50 patients who previously had to travel long distances for surgical procedures upon referrals. It represents timely interventions that will save lives. It represents financial relief for families burdened by the cost of seeking care outside their municipality.

Notably, the La Nkwantanang–Madina Municipality has until now lacked a public health facility equipped with a surgical theatre. This new theatre fills that critical gap. It expands both geographic and financial access to essential surgical services. It will significantly reduce the pressure on neighboring hospitals and bring quality, life-saving care closer to the people who need it most.

This milestone would not have been possible without visionary partnership and shared commitment. We extend our deepest gratitude to the Australian Government, whose generous sponsorship has made this dream a reality. Under the leadership of Her Excellency Berenice Owen-Jones, this partnership reflects the true spirit of international cooperation — one rooted in humanity, compassion, and sustainable development.

We also recognize the unwavering support of the Honourable Member of Parliament for Madina, Dr Francis-Xavier Sosu, whose advocacy for improved healthcare infrastructure continues to uplift this constituency. Our appreciation equally goes to the immediate past Ag. Medical Superintendent for Kekele Polyclinic, Dr. Emmanuel Addo Asante, the Principal Administrator, Madam Sandra Adjetey and their dedicated management team, Mr Fred Tsedzah, CEO of Paradigm Civil Engineering and Construction, Mr Alfred Quao, the Regional Clinical Equipment Manager for Ghana Health Service, whose leadership, collaboration and persistence ensured this project moved from vision to reality. We are also grateful to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for their support toward this transformative achievement.

This surgical theatre is more than concrete and equipment. It is a statement — that every life matters. That quality healthcare is not a privilege, but a right. That when governments, faith-based organizations, development partners, and communities unite, extraordinary progress is possible.

As we commission this groundbreaking facility, we do so with pride, but also with responsibility. As part of our commitment to providing holistic healthcare, particularly for our pregnant women who must maintain healthy hemoglobin levels, we have also established a Daliha Food Product Stand at the facility. This stand is stocked with iron-rich Daliha food products, processed using Turkey Berries (Abeduru / Kwawunsusua) designed to support patients who require hematinic supplementation.

These products are FDA certified and have proven beneficial in improving blood health among patients who need nutritional support for anemia and related conditions. Notably, during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Daliha Foods played a remarkable role in supporting maternal health by helping to save the lives of over 400 pregnant women across several maternity facilities, including Ridge Hospital, Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Achimota Hospital, and many others across Ghana. In recognition of this significant contribution to public health, Daliha Foods received an Impact Award from the Alliance for a Green Revolution

in Africa (AGRA) in Kenya for its outstanding impact. Kindly visit the Daliha Stand to purchase some of the products for your home. May this theatre operate with excellence. May it uphold the highest standards of safety and care. And may it serve generations to come as a beacon of hope.

We invite all stakeholders and members of the community to join us in celebrating this historic achievement on this day, 5th March 2026 — a day that will forever be remembered as a turning point in healthcare delivery in Madina.

Together, we have built more than a theatre. We have strengthened a health system. We have restored hope. We have saved lives before they are even in danger.

FREEDOM AID GHANA — Serving Health, Saving Lives. Long live Madina Polyclinic Kekele, Long Live the Australian High Commission, Long Live Ghana. Thank you for your attention, and may God bless us all.
